The Person Behind It All

A decade inside
England's finest independent schools.

I'm Ed. I hold a First-Class degree in Mathematics from the University of Exeter, and I spent a decade embedded inside two of England's most prestigious independent boarding schools - Blundell's and Cranleigh. At Cranleigh I wasn't just a maths teacher - I was Assistant Housemaster, with pastoral responsibility for the students in my care.

I know these schools from the inside. I know what they expect of their students, how they teach, and where students most commonly struggle. That insider knowledge is what makes Ed's Maths different from any tutoring agency.

I've since pursued professional hockey at the highest level - winning four Premier League titles - while raising three young children. Both keep me sharp, grounded, and deeply invested in helping young people perform at their best.

Why Families Choose Us

Four things that make
Ed's Maths different.

01

Diagnostic First, Always

Every student - at every level - starts with an independent diagnostic assessment. We build the programme from what we actually find, not what anyone assumes.

02

Independent School Expertise

Ed and every tutor on his team have taught in UK independent schools. They know the culture, the standards, and exactly what examiners reward.

03

Truly Bespoke

Every programme is built specifically for your child - their level, exam board, gaps, and timeline. No off-the-shelf lesson plans, ever.

04

Selectively Small

Places are limited because every tutor has taught in an independent school. We will never expand beyond what that standard allows.

The Team

Ed's Maths is more
than one person.

Ed founded this business on a principle he has never compromised: every tutor must have taught in a UK independent school. As the team has grown, that standard has stayed absolute.

What you will not find here: tutors without independent school experience, or anyone treating this as a side job. Every member of the team has stood in front of an independent school class and understands your child's world from the inside.

Find the Right Tutor
🏫

Independent School Experience

Every tutor has taught in at least one UK independent school. They understand the culture, the standards, and the pace your child is working to.

Fully DBS Checked

All tutors hold current enhanced DBS certificates. Your child's safety is never treated as a formality.

Ed's Ethos in Every Session

Warmth, patience, and rigour - the three qualities this business was built on. Non-negotiable, regardless of which tutor your child works with.

"I only put tutors in front of families I'd be comfortable sending my own children to. That's the only filter I use."
